What are Grind coffee pods made from and how can I compost them?Updated 2 months ago
Grind coffee pods are made from organic matter only. The material we use is PHA, which is made from micro-bacterial fermentation (much less gross than it sounds) and observes all the characteristics of plastics, whilst being 100% plastic free.
Our pods are TUV-Austria OK Compost HOME certified and will decompose within 26 weeks (in the right conditions*). As our pods are the first in the world using this technology, this is the highest and most current certification standard globally.
If you already have a home compost you can throw your pods straight in (once they’ve been used, obviously) and they’ll take care of themselves, enriching the soil as they decompose.
If you don’t have a home compost, putting our pods in your food waste bin or even your general waste bin is still far better for the environment than plastic and aluminium pods, and they’ll still disappear without a trace. You can find out more info on how to home compost here.
* The average UK home compost is around 30°C.
